This piece is a vintage Asano Botan nagura from the era when it was distributed by San-Ai Co., Ltd., the exclusive nationwide distributor of Asano nagura.It retains its original label and box from the time, preserving the authentic condition and atmosphere of its original distribution.

San-Ai played a central role in supplying nagura selected and graded by the Asano family across Japan, and was instrumental in establishing the global reputation of Asano nagura as it is known today.

This stone dates back to the period when the grandfather and father of the Sakamoto san—now known for “Ken Asano”—were active. As Mr. Asano himself was also the mentor of Mr. Sakamoto’s father, this piece can be positioned within a direct lineage where both the tradition and techniques have been faithfully passed down.

In addition to the practical performance of a Botan nagura—producing sharp cutting action and a consistent slurry—it also carries significant collectible value, including its historical distribution background, original labeling, and packaging.
