The bolo originated in the American West during the late 1940s. This bolo looks vintage and modern all at once. The large piece of turquoise is the centerpiece of this bolo. It’s a beautiful blue color with veins of metallic gold. The blue color’s formed by the presence of copper in the soil where it formed. The gold is formed by pyrite, or fool’s gold. Arizona adopted bolos as the State’s official neckwear in 1971!
The bolo’s hallmarked “Sterling” under the toggle. There’s another word that I can’t read without removing the cord. The slide measures 1 7/8” X 1 3/4”. The bolo slide itself weighs approximately 29 grams. The tips are about 2 1/4” long.
