Detailed information on Antique Anatolian Village Runner Rug with Olive Abrash Field, c. Early 20th Century – 2’4 x 5’9
This understated and elegant runner was woven in a village workshop in Anatolia during the early 20th century and offers a beautiful study in restraint. The olive-green field has mellowed into a range of natural abrash tones that speak to the age of the piece and the hand-dyed quality of the wool. A simple floral border in rust red, ivory, and soft blue adds just the right amount of framing to this composition, allowing the field’s soft variation to shine through.Rugs with such spare decoration were typically woven for home use rather than commercial sale, and their minimal design feels surprisingly modern. The wool has a soft, pliable handle, and the lower pile and clear signs of wear lend the piece a gentle authenticity that decorators and collectors alike will appreciate. While the rug shows wear throughout, it remains structurally sound and is a fine example of rural Turkish weaving from a time when rugs were truly utilitarian and expressive objects. This rug comes from the private collection of a prominent antique rug dealer in Amherst, MA.Local delivery available for a fee or pick up Westfield MA Consign your treasures with us! pearlcityantiques.comPlease contact me prior to purchasing with delivery address if you would like the item shipped to you.
