This Hanbel was originally designed by Mbarka and Khadija and will be woven by artisans from the Aït Ouaouzguite tribe.
Rooted in the Siroua region, where the High Atlas meets the Anti-Atlas Mountains, this intricate style blends Flatweave, embroidery, and hand-knotting to create a piece that is both textured and symbolic.
Mbarka and Khadija were the first artisans we ever worked with, and over the years, they’ve become cherished friends and teachers. The wool is sourced from local sheep and dyed using natural ingredients like henna, pomegranate, saffron, indigo, alfalfa, and mint.
While most of the weave is flat, the motifs rise slightly, adding depth and dimension. Each design comes entirely from the artisan’s imagination, with symbols representing protection, strength, beauty, and respect.
